Help
Getting started, answers to common questions, and how to reach us.
Getting started
- Add your sides. Tap Import and choose a PDF, photos, or scan the pages. No sides handy? Try a sample.
- Pick your character. On the script screen, tap the name you’re playing. Your lines get the highlighter.
- Rehearse. Tap Play. SceneKick reads the other parts, listens for your line, and moves on when you finish.
Ways to rehearse
- Run lines to learn them: each line is scored, and you can drill the ones you missed.
- Perform for a run-through at real pace. SceneKick waits through your pauses.
- Table read plays the whole scene, your lines too. No mic.
In the player you can also choose how SceneKick moves on: On cue (it listens), On tap, or Auto (it waits about as long as your line takes). And how much of your line you see: full text, first letters, cues only, or nothing.
Common questions
SceneKick can’t hear me
SceneKick needs two permissions to listen: Microphone and Speech Recognition. If you said no to either, turn them back on in the iPhone’s Settings app › Apps › SceneKick. On Android, open Settings › Apps › SceneKick › Permissions and allow Microphone.
On iPhone, the speech recognition request is Apple’s standard message, and it says speech may be sent to Apple. SceneKick only uses recognition that runs on your phone, so what you say isn’t sent anywhere.
You can still rehearse without them. Open the player and set Move to next line to On tap or Auto, or choose Table read.
The voice sounds robotic, or says it’s downloading
The natural voice is a one-time download of about 330 MB. It starts the first time you rehearse on Wi-Fi, or any time from Settings › Voice & microphone. Until it’s ready, SceneKick reads with your phone’s built-in voice and says so on the rehearsal screen.
It’s kept on your phone. You can delete it in Settings › Storage and download it again later.
SceneKick hears the reader, or cuts me off
Headphones give the cleanest result: the mic hears you, not the reader. Wired headphones and AirPods both work.
On the speaker, leave Settings › Voice & microphone › Echo cancellation on Auto. If SceneKick moves on too early or too late, Settings › Rehearsal has the fine-tuning for when it moves on.
Importing PDFs and photos
Tap Import in your library. Choose PDF opens your files: Files on iPhone (iCloud Drive and anything that saves to Files), or the file picker on Android (Google Drive included). From photos takes photos or screenshots of pages, and Scan pages uses the camera.
Sides in Mail, Google Drive or Dropbox: open the PDF there, tap Share, then Open in SceneKick.
New imports open in the editor so you can check them over. From photos and scans, lines SceneKick wasn’t sure about are marked. Pages are read on your phone.
Self-tapes
On the script screen, tap Self-tape. SceneKick prepares the reader first, then records with your lines on a teleprompter near the camera.
Each finished take is saved to your photo library (Photos on iPhone, your gallery on Android). If you’d rather save takes one by one, turn off Settings › Self-tape › Save takes to Photos and use Save to Photos on the takes you want. If you use iCloud Photos or Google Photos, saved takes are backed up like any other video.
Your take only has your voice unless you turn on the reader’s audio. If you do, the file is labelled as containing AI audio.
Contact us
Write to support@scenekick.app. We read everything.
Found a bug? In the app, go to Settings › Help & feedback › Report a bug. It adds your SceneKick and system versions, your phone model and your SceneKick settings, plus, if you leave it on, a short log of recent errors. You see all of it before you send, and it never includes your scripts, recordings or voice.
Subscriptions
SceneKick is free to download. SceneKick Pro comes in three ways:
- Day Player: 7-day pass, doesn’t renew.
- Guest Star: monthly, renews automatically.
- Series Regular: yearly, renews automatically.
You see the price in the App Store or Google Play before you pay, and Apple or Google handles the payment. A purchase on iPhone doesn’t carry over to Android, or the other way round.
Cancelling
Guest Star and Series Regular renew automatically until you cancel. To cancel on your iPhone, open the Settings app, tap your name, then Subscriptions, and choose SceneKick. Cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the period so you aren’t charged for the next one. You keep SceneKick Pro until the end of the period you’ve paid for.
On Android, open the Google Play Store app, tap your profile picture, then Payments & subscriptions › Subscriptions, and choose SceneKick. The same 24 hours apply.
A Day Player pass ends on its own after 7 days. It doesn’t renew, and you aren’t charged again.
New phone, or reinstalled SceneKick?
Restore your purchase in the app: Settings › SceneKick Pro › Restore purchases.
Refunds
Refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com, and for purchases on Android by Google Play, under Google’s refund policies.
