Privacy Policy

Effective [EFFECTIVE DATE]

The short version

  • Your scripts stay on your phone. We don’t have servers that store them, and we never see them.
  • No account, no ads, no analytics. SceneKick has no tracking or analytics code, and we don’t sell or share your data.
  • Listening and voices run on your phone. What you say during a rehearsal isn’t sent anywhere.
  • A few things can leave your phone, only when you act: downloading the voice and speech models, optional cloud voices with your own ElevenLabs account, sharing a scene or a self-tape, and emailing us.
  • This website sets no cookies and runs no analytics.

The rest of this page explains each of these in detail.

Who we are

SceneKick is made by ISLA Technologies [LLC], a company registered in Florida, USA, at [ADDRESS]. We’re the “controller” of the little personal data we receive (mostly emails you send us). Contact us at support@scenekick.app.

What stays on your iPhone

These are stored only in SceneKick on your iPhone. We never receive them:

  • your scripts and scenes, and any edits you make;
  • your run history: scores, the words recognized for each of your lines, and times;
  • unfinished rehearsals (kept for up to 7 days so you can pick up where you left off);
  • your self-tapes, and your slate details (name, height, location, agency) if you fill them in;
  • your settings, and the optional first name you add for sharing scenes;
  • your ElevenLabs API key, if you add one. It’s kept in this iPhone’s Keychain.

SceneKick doesn’t save recordings of your rehearsals. The microphone is used to recognize your words as you say them; the audio itself isn’t kept. Self-tapes are the only recordings, and only when you press Record.

If you back up your iPhone to iCloud or a computer, Apple’s backup includes SceneKick’s data, as it does for most apps. That backup is under your Apple account and Apple’s terms, not ours.

You can delete a script, its run history or your takes in the app at any time. Deleting SceneKick from your iPhone deletes what it stored in the app. Takes already saved to Photos stay in Photos. iOS can keep Keychain items after an app is deleted, so if you added an ElevenLabs key, remove it in SceneKick’s settings first.

Speech recognition and voices

SceneKick recognizes speech on your iPhone, using either Apple’s speech recognition, set to work only on the device, or a Whisper model that runs on the device. When iOS asks for permission, its message is Apple’s standard wording and mentions sending speech to Apple. SceneKick doesn’t use that option.

The natural reader voices (Kokoro) also run on your iPhone. If they aren’t downloaded yet, SceneKick uses the iPhone’s built-in voice.

The reader is a synthetic, AI-generated voice. When you save or share a self-tape that includes the reader’s audio, the file is labelled as containing AI-generated audio, so people who watch it can tell.

What can leave your iPhone, and when

Model downloads (Hugging Face)

The natural voice (about 330 MB) and the optional Whisper speech models are downloaded once from Hugging Face. The natural voice starts downloading the first time you rehearse on Wi-Fi, or when you choose it in Settings; Whisper models download only when you choose one. Hugging Face’s servers see your IP address and the file requested, like any download. Nothing about you or your scripts is sent. See Hugging Face’s privacy policy.

On some iPhones, Apple’s speech recognition also downloads its language model from Apple once. That’s handled by iOS.

Cloud voices (ElevenLabs, optional)

Cloud voices are off by default. If you turn them on and add your own ElevenLabs API key, SceneKick sends your scene partners’ lines (only theirs, never yours) to ElevenLabs to be turned into speech, under your ElevenLabs account. It also asks ElevenLabs for your account’s list of voices and your remaining credits, and downloads voice previews when you play one. This is between you and ElevenLabs: we don’t receive any of it. See ElevenLabs’ privacy policy.

Sharing scenes and self-tapes

When you share a scene with your scene partner, SceneKick creates a file with the scene’s text, characters and voice choices, plus the first name you added for sharing, if any. It goes wherever you send it, over AirDrop, Messages, Mail or another app. It doesn’t go through us.

Self-tapes are saved to your Photos library when a take finishes (you can turn this off in Settings › Self-tape) or when you tap Save to Photos. If you use iCloud Photos, Apple syncs them like any other video. Saved and shared takes have location and device details removed. They keep a title, the date, and the AI-audio label if the reader is in them.

Emails and bug reports

If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you write. If you use Report a bug in the app, the email also includes your SceneKick and iOS versions, your iPhone model, your SceneKick settings and audio setup (for example “Speaker” or “Bluetooth”), and, if you leave it on, a short log of recent errors and audio events. You see the full text before you send it. It never includes your scripts, recordings or voice, and names, titles and file names are removed from the log.

We use emails only to answer you and fix problems. We keep them for [RETENTION PERIOD] after the conversation ends, then delete them.

Subscriptions

Subscriptions are bought and managed through Apple’s App Store and Google Play. Apple or Google handles your payment, and we never receive your payment details.

Data Apple and Google share with us

Apple gives developers sales figures and, only if you’ve chosen to share them in your iPhone’s settings, crash reports and app usage statistics. Google gives developers sales figures and, only if you’ve allowed usage and diagnostics on your Android phone, crash reports and app performance statistics. These don’t identify you to us.

On Android

The rest of this policy describes SceneKick on iPhone. On Android, SceneKick works the same way, with these differences:

  • Speech recognition runs on your phone, using [ANDROID SPEECH RECOGNITION]. What you say isn’t sent anywhere.
  • Backups. If Android backup is on, Google’s backup can include SceneKick’s data, under your Google Account and Google’s terms, not ours. [CONFIRM ANDROID BACKUP SETTING]
  • Self-tapes are saved to your phone’s photo library. If you use Google Photos backup, Google backs them up like any other video.
  • Your ElevenLabs API key, if you add one, is kept in the Android Keystore.
  • Permissions: Microphone and Camera, which you can change in Settings › Apps › SceneKick › Permissions. [CONFIRM ANDROID PERMISSIONS]

Permissions SceneKick asks for

  • Microphone: to hear your lines when SceneKick listens for them, for dictation, and to record your voice in self-tapes. Rehearsing with On tap, Auto or Table read doesn’t use it.
  • Speech recognition: to know when you’ve finished your line. Recognition runs on your iPhone.
  • Camera: to scan script pages and to record self-tapes.
  • Photos (add only): to save self-tapes to your library. SceneKick can add videos but can’t see your photos. Picking photos of script pages to import uses Apple’s photo picker, which needs no permission.

SceneKick doesn’t use your location or contacts, and doesn’t send notifications. You can change any permission in the iPhone’s Settings app › Apps › SceneKick.

This website

scenekick.app sets no cookies, runs no analytics, and loads nothing from other websites. If you choose Light or Dark for this site (instead of following your device), your browser remembers that choice in its local storage, on your device. It isn’t sent to us. It’s hosted by Cloudflare, which processes your IP address and request details in its logs to deliver the site and protect it from attacks. We don’t keep our own logs. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy.

Why we can use your data (legal bases)

For people in the EU, UK and similar places, these are the legal bases under the GDPR:

  • Emails and bug reports: our legitimate interest in answering you and fixing SceneKick, or taking steps you asked for under our agreement with you.
  • Website delivery and security (Cloudflare): our legitimate interest in running a secure, working website.
  • Model downloads: providing the app you asked to use.
  • Subscriptions: performing our agreement with you, through Apple or Google.

Everything that stays on your iPhone is processed by you, on your device. We don’t receive it, so it isn’t processing by us. ElevenLabs processes your partners’ lines under your own agreement with ElevenLabs.

International transfers

We’re based in the United States. If you email us from outside the US, your email is transferred to and stored in the US. Where the law requires it, we rely on the safeguards available for that transfer, such as the provider’s certification under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or standard contractual clauses.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you can ask us to:

  • tell you what personal data we have about you and give you a copy;
  • correct it;
  • delete it;
  • give it to you in a portable format;
  • stop or limit using it, or object to how we use it.

Write to support@scenekick.app. We’ll answer within one month. Most of your data never reaches us, so the quickest way to delete it is in the app or by deleting the app.

If you’re in the EU, UK or another place with a data protection authority, you can also complain to that authority.

US state privacy rights

We don’t sell or share personal information, and we don’t use it for targeted advertising or profiling. Whatever state you live in, you can ask to see or delete what we have, and we won’t treat you differently for asking.

Children

SceneKick isn’t directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from them. SceneKick’s App Store age rating is [AGE RATING], and its Google Play content rating is [PLAY CONTENT RATING]. If you think a child has sent us personal information, email us and we’ll delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we change how SceneKick handles data, we’ll update this page and the date at the top before the change takes effect, and note what changed below.
